FAQs (By Tom Small)

Q: What's the deal with “Serena”? Will it ever come out?
A: “Serena” was written at a time when my Mom had just lost my Dad, the love of her life and she was emotionally compromised. The book, while having a great plot to finish up the series, reads rushed. The lush descriptions of places, people and things are not there. She knew she was ill and she was hurrying to finish it up. She wanted to get back to my Dad. A few who knew her have read it, and agree it is not fit for publication. It needs to be edited and cleaned up. It is NOT up to her standards. I know her standards. I have asked many of her peers to help me achieve the goals stated above to get it out there. No one will help. No one wants to touch her work as if she is some famous painter. I get it, but it prevents it from being released. Until it can get to the point she would have wanted it to be at, it will stay, sadly…. Unreleased.

Q: What was it like having a famous author as your Mom?
A: I never cared, and I don’t say that as a jerk. I was VERY proud of her…. But she was always “Mom” first.

Q: Have you read any of your Mom’s work?
A: I have read parts here and there, but nothing in full. I have read enough to know her style, her “cadence” as an author, but I am not interested in reading the sex scenes in my Mother’s books. Her inspiration for those scenes was my Father. Should I be more mature and be able to get past that? Yeah, I should, but I cannot get past it. It’s still uncomfortable- even at my age….Sad…. But just telling the truth. I don’t care to think about my parents having sex since I know where she got those descriptions.

Q: What is in the works? What have you done or are doing for her legacy?
A: There is an Apple+ TV series for Skye O’Malley in production now. Most of her books are re-recorded and available on audible. There is a new book coming out chronicling her progress and process as a writer, including an unpublished never before seen novella that is half true, half false about her time in the industry called “Relentless”. More info is on this site and her FB page. I recognize the impact she had and how much she means to her fans…. And how much you meant to her - which is why I keep looking, searching, pushing for everything I can to keep her name and work alive.
